West Ham station is a London Underground and National Rail station in East London. The design was considered as a kit of parts to enable construction in this difficult environment to be undertaken within very exacting constraints. The elegant canopy is conceived as a dynamic series of rhythmic structural bays made from steel columns and concrete beams, with lightweight glass, brickwork piers columns, and aluminum infill panels. A continuous band of deep blue light lights the underside of the canopy, which accentuates the dynamic soaring forms of the canopy. The components are prefabricated and fully pre-wired, incorporating all intercom and lighting systems to create a ‘plug and play’ modular solution.
