351 Caledonian Road finalist at RTPI Awards for Planning Excellence

05.02.2019

351 Caledonian Road has been shortlisted in the Excellence for Planning for Homes category at the RTPI Awards for Planning Excellence. Our scheme is a 156-home development of a derelict railway embankment site, previously compulsory purchased for construction of the Channel Tunnel Rail Link (CTRL) into London St Pancras. Tunnels run approximately 5m below ground.

Comprising a linear building (in the background of this image) and a series of freestanding pavilions (in the foreground), the scheme faced unique site challenges including two additional railway lines adjacent and designation as a Site of Importance for Nature Conservation. To distribute loading above the CTRL, pre-fabricated lightweight structural steel frames were used above concrete rafts, an innovative solution within a landscape featuring extensive new trees and planting.
