Final phases of Greenwich Millennium Village unanimously approved

03.02.2021

Jestico + Whiles’ final phases of Greenwich Millennium Village unanimously approved by Royal Borough of Greenwich this week. With the culmination of 10 years working on the project, Jestico + Whiles have created a neighbourhood with an innovative blend of live, work uses that fulfils a significant opportunity to create a new riverside community with a strong emphasis on street life.

With nearly 1,800 homes, a community hub and commercial and retail space, it is both recognisable and unique, filled with abundant life, culture, green space and character.

In the southeast of the Greenwich Peninsula, lies a rare and complex 12ha brownfield site. A site bounded by the historic wharfs that signify the industrial heritage and the high-rise developments that have provided a new identity and purpose to this Thameside location. The final phases of Greenwich Millennium Village, designed by Jestico + Whiles continues the playful evolutionary tradition of the local architectural language while also providing attractive homes, excellent amenities and beautiful open spaces.

We have developed the designs true to the spirit and intentions of the original vision by Ralph Erskine, but with a different innovative twist in every plot; the resulting spaces are filled with variety. The designs are the result of a collaborative discussion about the ways in which people live and inhabit the city, as well as how these continue to change and evolve. Particular focus was placed on providing a range in dwelling types, supporting a broad, inclusive social mix and a strong, diverse community.
