Jestico + Whiles has seen off an impressive list of practices, including Foster + Partners, to design the ‘centrepiece’ hotel within the £850million Edinburgh St James scheme It is understood Allies & Morrison, KPF and WATG (Wimberly Allison Tong & Goo) were also in the running for the job at the heart of the huge, retail-led city centre project masterplanned by Allan Murray Architects.
The AJ100 practice’s victorious concept is described as a bundle of ‘coiled ribbons…creating a free-flowing and bold building’. The 210-room hotel will feature a ‘lofty bar, lounge and restaurant space boasting 360 degree panoramic views over’ the Scottish capital.
