Open City Accelerate Mentoring at the Barbican

11.05.2022

Over the past four weeks we have been conducting a series of mentoring sessions with three sixth form students, each looking to start a career in architecture.

Accelerate is a pioneering education and mentoring programme aimed at increasing diversity in the architecture profession.

It gives sixth form students from disadvantaged backgrounds the confidence and skills required to make strong applications to study architecture and subjects linked to the built environment. In doing so, a more representative demographic group will be shaping London’s future built environment.

This year the brief was focused on creating a kiosk, our students conducted a site visit to the Barbican which formed the location of an open air concert. Therefore the Kiosks primary function was to distribute tickets for the concert to visitors. The fantastic proposals were described through collages and a model.

We can’t wait for the summer exhibition to celebrate their hard work!
