Heal's Installation / Jestico Whiles

To celebrate London Design Festival 2017, and as part of their ongoing commitment to innovative and inspiring design, the contemporary furniture and lighting store, Heal’s, hosted an architectural installation designed in collaboration with Jestico + Whiles at their flagship store on Tottenham Court Road, London.

We worked closely with the Heal’s team to develop the design, which took inspiration from their Autumn/Winter 2017 interiors collection, as well as the individual designers the store was working with that season.

One designer, One Nine Eight Five, was singled out as a key reference for the installation. The brand specialises in print and interior textiles supporting British manufacturing and craftsmanship. Their Autumn/Winter 2017 range featured throws, prints and cushions. One cushion in particular, formed of opulent tassels, provided a key source of inspiration for the design of the installation.

The installation comprised richly coloured flowing ribbons, animated by the movement of the wind. The ribbons were mounted externally to flagpoles on the Grade II* listed façade, and ceiling-mounted internally to the front show room at ground level. The installations created movement and excitement not only to the entrance area of the landmark store, but also to the street scene of one of London’s premier retail streets.

The colour palette was directly influenced by two of Heal’s key Autumn/Winter 2017 collections: the Opulence range and the Nordic Comfort range. The Opulence range featured sumptuous, rich colours and materials including velvets in deep green, teal and gold, whilst the Nordic Comfort range featured softer, natural colours, pale woods and tactile fabrics. Heal’s worked closely with us to select a range of six colours including dusky pink, aubergine, royal blue, teal, forest green and honey, which brought together the essence of these two collections.
