The Hilton Hotel Tower Bridge is located within the heart of More London, a commercial development on the South Bank of the Thames between London Bridge and Tower Bridge. The design consists of interconnecting wings which mediate between the disparate elements of Tooley Street’s historic Conservation Area and the surrounding contemporary glass commercial buildings. A nine storey wing, with variegated, metallic panel cladding forms the backdrop to the major public square, More London Place. A thirteen storey wing, with extruded clay tile cladding defines the pedestrian axis between Tower Bridge and Tooley Street with alternating cobalt blue and amber glass window panels which accentuate the design of the façade and the internal spaces.
The dramatic design provides comfort and luxury in a contemporary environment. The large glazed elevations feature an elegant screen of horizontal brise soleil to control sunlight inside the ground floor spaces and bring vitality to the outside square. A frosted glass box of the conference room cantilevers out of the façade over the main site axis. The external curved copper wall contrasts with the raw, polished concrete of the internal structural columns and the fine white concrete of the lift cores. The warm natural materials and soft furnishings of the internal spaces are well considered and the cool white and grey colours are enhanced by an attractive lighting scheme.
