Karlin 8 Food Experience is an exciting new food court concept located in the fashionable district of Karlin 8 in Prague. It consists of multiple restaurants, for which we designed a bespoke visual identity.
The warehouse-style building, which used to be part of a factory will host a total of ten specialised restaurants, a grocery store ferrying local products, a café and a craft beer bar.
Jestico + Whiles was appointed to design the building, its interiors and the branding of each venue within, which each have an individual visual identity.
For the design of the Karlin logo, we used a contemporary version of a traditional Czech typeface, drawing inspiration from Prague's rich graphic design history.
The number 8 features prominently in the logo, and appears as part of the visual identity for each venue that forms Karlin 8.
Ital is Karlin 8’s Italian restaurant. The venue focusses on the country’s tradition of antipasti, offering a selection of mouth-watering Venetian and Milanese dishes alongside glasses of Prosecco and Aperol Spritz.
The visual identity reflects Italy’s strong connection with product design and fashion. The logo was drawn by the visual identity studio using fabric stitching as a point of reference. The colour palette is inspired by the city of Sienna’s famous pigment.
Rezník is a butcher and grill restaurant which forms a further component of the Karlin 8 food experience.
The visual identity is inspired by traditional butchers wrapping: the menus are printed on the extra thin wrapping that butchers use to package meat.
The logo is a freehand drawing echoing the writings on blackboards used in old-fashioned butcher shops in Prague, to indicate the day’s offering.
