Jestico + Whiles has designed the first two phases of the 14 hectare Island Quarter masterplan in Nottingham, one of the largest developments in Nottingham for decades.
The island site is home to layers of history from Nottingham’s industrial and manufacturing past, with remnants of Victorian stations and railway lines as well as historic canals and waterways. It was the site of the original Boots The Chemist.
These phases will kick-start a major regeneration just outside the city centre with a collection of landmark mixed-use buildings, set amongst a network of public squares, parks and waterways.
The initial phase comprises The Pavilion, a canal side restaurant and events space, and a new public square incorporating a sculptural bandstand for hosting live music and theatre.
The second phase will see the delivery of 45,000 sqm mixed-use complex featuring a hotel, long stay suites, BTR residential, co-working, an indoor food market, gym and retail all under one roof – providing both a major destination, and the beating heart of the future masterplan.
The cohesive architectural vision for both phases acknowledges, references and reinterprets the rich and layered history of the site and the city of Nottingham.
Our designs draw inspiration from the architecture of T.C. Hine, designer of the Victorian train station and warehouse buildings on the site, as well as the nearby historic Lace Market.
