The Hempel is a 35 bedroom, five star hotel overlooking a graceful landscaped garden square in a Conservation Area in central London. Located within a row of stunning white Georgian houses, the Hempel was London’s first minimalist hotel. The practice was appointed as the architects and interior designers by the construction company Fujita, in close cooperation with the renowned interior designer Anouska Hempel, to create a series of individual and unique rooms, restaurant and conference facilities, in a signature minimalist style. The practice was further appointed to design three neighbouring developments including offices, serviced business apartments and a children’s museum. The stunning interior design has wide influences from around the world and many materials and specialist finishes were sourced to meet the exacting requirements of the client. Decorations are luxurious but minimal, and soft furniture and natural fabrics create a spectacular series of cool and elegant spaces. Colour schemes are black and white or beige. Attention to detail was paramount in the design; walls appear to float and surfaces are smooth and polished. The existing derelict structure was redesigned with a monumental atrium within the centre of the hotel, whilst the elegant façade of the houses was carefully retained.
