The Island Quarter / Jestico Whiles

One of the largest developments in Nottingham for decades, Jestico + Whiles has designed three phases of The Island Quarter 36-acre masterplan, including a major new cultural venue The Canal Turn which was completed in 2022, and two further phases, a landmark mixed-use tower, and the restoration of three Grade II Victorian warehouses.

These phases will kick-start a major regeneration just outside the city centre with a collection of urban blocks, set amongst a network of public squares, parks and waterways. Originally the site of Boots central factory, the island site is home to layers of history from Nottingham’s industrial and manufacturing past, with remnants of Victorian stations and railway lines as well as historic canals and waterways.

Adjacent to The Canal Turn, a new 45,000 sqm mixed-use landmark tower will include a hotel, long stay suites, BTR residential, co-working, an indoor food market, gym and retail all under one roof – providing both a major destination, and the beating heart of the future masterplan.

The cohesive architectural vision for both phases acknowledges, references and reinterprets the rich and layered history of the site and the city of Nottingham.
