A second life for PLUS at London Design Festival

When we created PLUS, our installation for Clerkenwell Design Week 2024, sustainability was at the heart of the project from the start. A crucial part of this was ensuring that the timber we used would have a pre-assigned afterlife. Instead of sending the materials to landfill, we planned to ‘borrow’ them for our installation before passing them on for another use with a strong social purpose. We’re thrilled to see that plan come to fruition at this year’s London Design Festival.

After deconstruction, we passed the timber from our installation on to our friends at architectural design studio Flimsy Works. The team there has collaborated with design collective STORE Projects to create a pavilion in Coal Drops Yard, Kings Cross.

The structure was created by students aged 14 to 18 and interested in pursuing a career in design, who were taking part in STORE’s 2024 summer school, ‘Cabin Fever‘. Experimenting with simple joinery techniques, the log cabin they designed and built is a stackable and de-stackable structure that celebrates repair and reuse.
