Brasserie 1869 is the first new restaurant at the historic Hurlingham Club in decades, named after the year the club was founded. Set within the club’s East Wing, the restaurant was conceived as a social focal point for members. Inside, it offers space for 110 diners and a 20-cover private dining room. French doors open out onto a terrace set within 42 acres of grounds on the banks of the River Thames.

Brasserie 1869, the new restaurant designed by Jestico + Whiles for the historic Hurlingham Club, is now open, following its launch at this year’s Giorgio Armani Tennis Classic.

Situated on the banks of the River Thames in Fulham, the Hurlingham Club is set in extensive grounds designed by Capability Brown and Humphrey Repton, and includes grade II*-listed elements designed by Edwin Lutyens. The restaurant takes its name from the year the club was established.

Set within the club’s East Wing, Brasserie 1869 was conceived as a social focal point for members, offering 110 covers and an outdoor terrace with space for 40. The much-anticipated venue is the first new restaurant at the club for decades.

Bespoke timber panelling, wine walls and an island bar define zones within the restaurant, which includes a bar lounge and a 20-cover private dining room. An open kitchen adds a sense of theatre to the dining experience.

New domed skylights illuminate the space, in dialogue with the glazed ceiling of the adjacent Palm Court, also refurbished as part of the project. French doors open out into the sanctuary of the club’s expansive grounds, where the outdoor terrace is sheltered under towering, centuries-old London plane trees.

Brasserie 1869 is the first phase of a wider masterplan for Hurlingham that will deliver a new café and additional sport and leisure facilities over the coming years.

Jestico + Whiles was appointed by the club as both architect and interior designer in 2022, following a design competition. The practice was chosen on the strength of its established reputation for excellence in hospitality, including restaurants and private members’ clubs around the world.
