King’s College receives planning permission
We’re pleased to announce that our designs for the new Junior School at King’s College School Wimbledon have secured planning permission – reaching a major milestone in the school’s move to a new home on The Downs.
Our scheme will create a purpose-built home for 336 pupils aged 7 to 11, bringing together inspiring learning spaces and a sensitive response to the Conservation Area setting.
Following the site’s natural topography, a series of stepped volumes gives the building its distinctive form. Shared spaces, specialist classrooms for art, design and engineering, and science, and a rooftop learning terrace will support a modern, collaborative curriculum.
Designed to be all-electric and targeting BREEAM Excellent, the school combines a high-performance building fabric with passive-first design and renewables.
Howard Pye, Associate Principal at Jestico + Whiles, said: “King’s College School Wimbledon presented us with an exciting design challenge: a delicate balance of contextual sensitivity to the conservation area and inspiring educational ambition.”
